I primarily represent employees in New Mexico Employment Law matters, including plaintiffs who were terminated or demoted, as well as providing advice to employees navigating issues with their current employer. I also handle Worker's Compensation cases for employees who were injured on the job and other personal injury cases for plaintiffs. Further, I represent Federal employees in the EEO process
and clients nationwide on matters involving Federal law, administrative law or arbitrations, sometimes as co-counsel with local attorneys when necessary. I also represent small business employers to help navigate administrative processes, to advise against employment law violations and to defend against lawsuits. I enjoy helping small businesses understand and implement employment laws so as to protect themselves and their employees from unintentional wrongful acts. I focus on representing pregnant women, nursing mothers, or other women in claims of pregnancy discrimination, FMLA violations and/or sexual harassment. I also represent clients with disabilities, including mental and physical health and cancer, who are discriminated against at work. I have experience in the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act as it applies to discrimination against medical marijuana patients in the workplace. I'm also experienced in other areas of Discrimination, Harassment, Retaliation, Wrongful Discharge, Severance Agreements, Employment contracts, EEOC and HRD claims, Unemployment Insurance hearings, wage and hour issues, employment classification issues, licensing board charges, and a variety of areas involving civil rights and Constitutional rights claims and Federal and state law actions, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, Section 1983 claims, the Whistleblower Protection Act, and claims for failure to follow state/local laws. Outside the employment law realm and in addition to personal injury and Worker's Compensation, I occasionally represent clients in other matters such as business law, property/real estate issues, family law and civil rights matters. I'm primarily a trial attorney although I also represent clients in mediations and arbitrations, and I provide mediation services as well. I've been continually licensed with the State Bar of New Mexico since 2006 and originally worked at large firms in Albuquerque defending insurance companies and other big businesses until I discovered I liked representing everyday people and small businesses better.
